Sitepro’s temporary protection products are often thought of as for use during construction and renovation projects by professional contractors, however the range is so versatile that it can be used in many different circumstances. One which many people will be familiar with is moving to a new house. Not only is it stressful but it’s also when damage can occur to both the houses you are leaving/moving in to and your possessions. A recommend a few simple products which can make your move go much more smoothly!
Pack your possessions well
There’s one simple product every house move requires and that’s bubble wrap. Anything that could possibly get damaged or break, we suggest you cover with bubble wrap – don’t take the risk. The impact absorbing plastic will protect valuables from bumps and knocks during transit. It’s so quick and simple to apply, just wrap around the object and secure with some parcel tape – job done! Plus, it can be used on virtually anything – from your highly breakable glassware and crockery to your expensive electrical items and furniture.
Consider the logistics of large items
Hands up if you’ve ever tried to fit a large wardrobe down a narrow staircase and ended up taking a chunk out of the paintwork? It’s so easily done. You’re then left having to spend additional money on repainting walls, replacing scratched doors, etc. However, there are plenty of products which could be used to prevent this.
Doors – Even if you go to the additional precautionary measure of removing the door, the frame can still get badly damaged. A simple Proguard foam door jamb protector will absorb knocks and prevent damage. It’s so quick to apply, just place the self-gripping o profile tubes on to the frame and remove when done.
Walls and corners – The quickest and easiest way to protect your walls would be to use a self-adhesive fleece product, such as Proguard Protectall Fleece. They’re versatile and can be used on virtually any surface as well as being reusable. Just roll the fleece out, stick and trim! For corners use one of Sitepro’s card or foam corner protectors to minimise the risk of damage.
Stairs and handrails – Whether you’re doing the removal yourself or you’ve got a professional company in to do it for you, staircases are high traffic areas so can easily get damaged. Proguard’s stair tread protectors are ideal if you’ve vulnerable stair treads. Made from robust card they’re a cost-effective method. Hand rails can be protected with specifically designed foam handrail protectors. They come in a variety of sizes to ensure they fit perfectly.
Stop the spread of dirt
One thing we guarantee will happen during a house move is people will constantly be walking in and out of the main exits. And when people go outside then come back in, they can easily bring muddy footprints with them. The last thing you want to be doing when you’ve just moved into your new home is having to scrub dirty carpets.
Whilst many people might make do with an old dust sheet thrown down on the floor, they’re not ideal. They aren’t waterproof, they move around a lot and, most importantly, they can cause a trip hazard. To protect both your carpets and yourself from an accident we highly recommend you use a protective self-adhesive carpet film. The film comes on an easy to handle roll, simple stick down, trim then peel up when you’re done. No fuss, no mess!
Job done
Once you’ve completed the move you’ll find a lot of these products are reusable and versatile, so keep them somewhere safe and enjoy benefiting from using them time and time again (the carpet film will certainly come in handy for the house warming party!!).
